Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013: Day 1
Gucci opened Milan Fashion Week with a bang--I adored this glamorous collection. The back of this emerald gown was especially show-stopping.

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2012: Day 1

Spring 2012 Fashion Week: Milan
Spring fashion week already seems like a distant memory (especially with the fall 2012 shows quickly approaching), but I am marching onward to cover Milan and Paris. In Milan, I fell in love with the Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Emporio Armani collections.
GUCCI
This season, Frida Giannini outfitted the Gucci woman in flapper-glam dresses and pant suits. The look was strong and sexy (as it must be with Gucci), and ready to hit the town. Art deco patterns adorned everything from dresses to pants, all rendered in a bold palette of emerald, black, white, and gold. The series of shimmering drop-waist dresses were incredibly fun and glamorous--some were fringed for an extra dose of attitude. If I were in the market for a knockout party dress, this is the collection I would be pulling from.
DOLCE & GABBANA
For their spring collection, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana went back to their Italian roots and channeled a young, sexy Sophia Loren. They also must have looked to the kitchen for inspiration, because every runway look was adorned with food. Models wore eggplant and onion printed dresses, bow tie pasta earrings, and pepper and garlic trimmed handbags. If you think that sounds tacky, take a look at the garments--they are luxe, feminine, and glamorous. After a parade of vegetable-print circle skirts and bra tops, the show ended with a series of colorful jeweled corsets. This was a happy, exuberant collection.
EMPORIO ARMANI
Giorgio Armani's collection for his Emporio Armani line was a departure from most spring shows. Presented in a stark black and white palette, his models marched out as platinum-bobbed clones. They had a polished Parisian air about them, thanks to the white boater hats and boxy handbags. All of the looks were very clean and graphic, with seams and edges defined by contrasting trim. This was a striking collection that was also very wearable--I can picture the separates and suiting fitting well into most women's wardrobes.

Runway Beauty D.I.Y.: Gucci
The hair and makeup at Gucci's spring show in Milan felt so current. The bold blood orange lip color took center stage, but equally impactful were the sleek hair and glowing skin. Each model's bone structure was emphasized with dewy, radiant skin. The look could be wearable on most women (minus the shellacked hair), and easily toned down for a day at the office, or amped up for a night on the town.
Step 1: FACE
The key to duplicating this look is creating the illusion of flawless, glowing skin. I began by mixing a little luminizing lotion (you need something with iridescent particles) in with my foundation and applying all over my face to create a dewy base. I followed with concealer, patting it in where I have imperfections or any discolorations. For this look, it is important to conceal anywhere you have slight redness or darker pigmentation in your skin--this can be time consuming, but it is worth it. I then used a highlighting pen (I recommend this one) to "lift" areas of my face, taking cues from my bone structure. It is best to use this under the eyes, on the brow bone, down the front of the nose, on the cupid's bow of your lips, and on your chin. Next, you want to work additional luminizer into your base to create a glow. Start by applying it high on your cheekbones, then arc upwards aroud the eye to the brow bone, creating a "C" shape. Finally, you want to add depth to your cheeks by sweeping bronzer under and around them, then blending up into your temples.
Step 2: EYES
For the eyes, you need a brown shadow with a little shimmer. I used this creme shadow, which has a nice pearly finish. Apply all over the lid and blend outwards. Then use a shimmery gold or white shadow to highlight the inner corner of the eye and go over the brow bone once again. Apply mascara to the top and bottom lashes. The eyebrows should be cleaned up a bit with a brow pencil (as needed) and brow gel.
Step 3: LIPS
For the lips, I layered an orange lipstick under a red gloss. For control and precision, use a brush to line the lips with the lipstick and then fill them in.

Spring 2011 Fashion Week: Milan
Viva Italia! The overwhelming trend on the spring runways has been the seventies...we'll see if Paris follows suit. I LOVE the Italian designers, so it is difficult to pick favorites. When push came to shove, Emilio Pucci, Gucci, and Prada's spring shows were the standouts.
EMILIO PUCCI
Peter Dumas is a designer to watch. Every collection he's put out for Emilio Pucci has been flat out gorgeous, and this is only his second spring showing for the design house. He has a tremendous sense of color and print (necessary when you are working at Pucci), and his designs are sensual and glamorous. This collection has a very relaxed, earthy feel, but these dresses would still look right at home on the red carpet.
GUCCI
This collection is strong, sexy, and drenched in color. What's not to like? I think this is Frida Giannini's best show to date for Gucci.
PRADA
Miuccia Prada is not one to rest on her laurels. After her critically acclaimed Mad Men-esque fall show, she did an about face for spring. This collection pushed the envelope with goggle-like sunglasses, loud stripes, and baroque-style prints featuring monkeys and bananas. To top it all off, the models were styled with gelled finger waves and a heavy silver eye, inspired by Josephine Baker. I think Miuccia has a pretty good sense of humor.

I had to throw these in to do justice to Milan.
